UMW at St. Mark is a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowhip; and to participate in global ministries of the church.
Our emblem: The official emblem for United Methodist Women as well as for The United Methodist Church combines the cross and flame. The cross and flame are ancient symbols of Christ and Pentecost. The shape of the emblem is fluid and free flowing, suggesting change and mobility. "I now remind you to stir into flame the gift of God which is within you." -- 2 Timothy 1:6:
Our heritage: Our heritage is one of sacrifice, witness and service. The emblem serves as a continuing reminder of both opportunity and obligation.
Only in small groups within the church can we really fellowship on a personal level with other Christians. Joining one of our circles is a great way to connect with other Christian women, have fun, grow in your relationship with the Lord and find new avenues of service together. In addition, we have all the UMW circles meet together for an annual retreat, a cookout each summer and a Christmas dinner.
There are three different circles that make up the United Methodist Women at St. Mark UMC:
The Friendship Circle meets on the second Sunday of each month
The Joy Circle meets on the third Tuesday of each month
The Rose Circle meets on the third Thursday of each month
The circles are not divided by age groups; we would love for you to visit any one that fits your schedule. Please call the church office at 865-588-0808 or send us an email message at email@example.com for more information. Our purpose: The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the Church.
Our special mission project is the WesleyHouse. Therefore 10 percent of all proceeds from the yard sale and the Holiday Bake and Decorate sale will be given to support their efforts. Several afternoons during the week you will find us tutoring neighborhood children.
The United Methodist Women of St Mark United Methodist Church invite you to join our loving, supportive sisterhood. We welcome you!
In addition to our service projects throughout the year, we also participate in the UMW Reading Program. Through reading, we are educated about missions; develop leadership skills & spiritual growth; explore ways to nurture our communities, ourselves & each other—sometimes leading us to take social action.
There are four UMW Reading Program Plans. All plans include reading from Response magazine (available in the church library).
Plan I participants read 5 books per year—1 book from each category.
The categories are: Education for Mission, Leadership Development, Nurturing for Community, Social Action & Spiritual Growth.
Plan II. III & IV participants read from New World Outlook magazine as well as from Response magazine. (Both are available in the church library.)
Plan II participants read 2 books from each of the 5 afore mentioned book categories.
Plan III participants read 2 books from each of the 5 categories, plus 5 additional books from any category.
Plan IV participants read 2 books from each of the 5 categories, plus 10 additional books from any category.
We give Reading Program Certificates out annually. Please turn in a list of books you’ve read along with their designated categories to Ann Troutt. You can call her at 865-951-2235. She’ll happily answer any of your Reading Program – or Joy Circle questions. Reading helps open our minds, as well as our hearts & our doors as we embrace God & His people.
